Hello, I am really looking forward to this Sunday’s service at Living Faith. We will be visited by Ruth Stewart who is the Ministry Development Coordinator with the Canadian Bible Society. Living Faith is a partner congregation with the CBS and, let me tell you, it’s a great partnership – we receive free Bibles for those being confirmed in their faith and we agree to host a Bible Society Service once a year. It truly is a win-win situation! This Sunday, Ruth will be sharing with us about the work of the CBS, which is involved in publishing and distributing Bibles in Canada and around the world. I hope you will come and hear Ruth’s message for us. Special offering envelopes will be available if you feel inclined to make a financial donation to the work of CBS.
Donations are starting to arrive at our church in response to the plea for infant and children’s items which will be sent to Haiti through Emmanuel’s Wish. Thanks so much to Mel Shields who is coordinating the collection. The full list of needed items is included in last week’s emailing (which is also available on our new website, the address is listed below). Please bring your donations to church on Sunday – or drop them off through the week – and Mel will pick them up and deliver them to Emmanuel’s Wish. The goal is to fill a shipping container with these much needed items. As well, we are continuing our financial collection for Haiti through Presbyterian World Service & Development. Offering envelopes for PWS&D are available in our church foyer, and all donations will be matched by the federal government until Feb. 12th.
In Matthew’s gospel, Jesus said “whatever you do for the least of these brothers of mine, you do for Me.” Let’s take this opportunity to serve Christ by serving others in His name.
Peace be with you all,
Heather

While the images and stories coming out of Haiti continue to shock and dismay us, we are also hearing stories that could only be classified as “miracles”. This week, a young boy was pulled – alive – out of the rubble after 7 days! We’ve often been told that humans cannot survive more than 3-4 days without water, yet this boy survived for an entire week. He said he called out to his “Boss God” the entire time.
Last week in our worship service, we spoke about the little glimmers of light that are beginning to be seen in this dark situation, and these glimmers are growing as people from around the globe respond with compassion and support. Hollywood and Canadian stars are pooling their talents to raise funds for Haiti tonight on television, recording artists are using their gift of music to bring awareness to the situation (you can check out the video “Together – a Song for Haiti” that I used in last week’s sermon at www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMbDYNDC3sA), our schoolchildren are initiating fundraisers, and we are being encouraged to give generously to humanitary aid organizations.
Here at Living Faith, we are continuing to raise funds for Presbyterian World Service & Development – Haiti Relief (special envelopes will be available again this Sunday) and one of our members, Mel Shields, is encouraging us to donate specific items to fill a container ship for Haiti through Emmanuel’s Wish. You are invited to bring your donated items to Living Faith where Mel can pick them up on Sunday mornings.

YOUR PRAYERS YOUR PRAYERS YOUR PRAYERS YOUR PRAYERS YOUR PRAYERS
As you can see, Mel has concluded her list of items for Haiti with PRAYER.
Some of us may be finding it difficult to pray in this situation. We may be angry at God – wondering how He could allow this type of disaster to happen in the first place. We may be overwhelmed by the images of grief and despair coming out of Haiti, making it difficult for us to concentrate on prayer. The topic of PRAYER will be the focus of our time together this Sunday morning at Living Faith, and we will be looking to the Psalms as our guide. I hope you will come and join us.
